Features Description Veratrum album lobelianum is a perennial plant, growing by 1 to 1,5m. The leaves are oval and large and the white or green flowers form bunches at the tip of the stem. It blossoms from June to July and the harvesting takes place mainly from September to October.
Method Administration The plant is mainly externally administered in the form of powder (0,03-0,1g daily) to treat various skin diseases. A tincture (herbal extract, 1: 5 in 70% ethyl alcohol, 10 to 30 drops per day) is recommended for its antihypertensive properties.Warning: The use of herb preparations is not recommended without seeking advice from your physician or pharmacist. The substances they contain may interact with the subscribed drugs that the patient already takes, thus eliminating their therapeutic efficacy or inducing toxicity. They may also burden further weakened vital functions of the body thus exposing the patient to increased morbidity and life threatened conditions.
Pharmacological Info The whole plant has antihypertensive properties due to Veratrini A and B, and is administered orally for the treatment of severe hypertension. It is also effective against myasthenia gravis and muscular dystrophy (MD). In homeopathy, it is used externally in the form of powder to treat neuralgia, rheumatic pain, pruritus (itch) and gout.
