Features Description Spartium junceum is a shrub growing from 1 to 3m, with numerous branches. The leaflets are small, sparse and lanceolate and the flowers are yellow and wavy. The harvesting of the flowers takes place in the morning at the same period with the flowering, from May to September.
Method Administration The plant is administered as diuretic, laxative and antidiabetic in the form of herbal tea (20g of dried flowers and leaves in 500mL of boiled water, 2-3 times a day). The flowers are used for the production of yellow dye and perfume oil, which is widely used in perfumery.Warning: The use of herb preparations is not recommended without seeking advice from your physician or pharmacist. The substances they contain may interact with the subscribed drugs that the patient already takes, thus eliminating their therapeutic efficacy or inducing toxicity. They may also burden further weakened vital functions of the body thus exposing the patient to increased morbidity and life threatened conditions.
Pharmacological Info The whole plant has diuretic, laxative, emetic, emmenagogue and cardiotonic properties. It is used for the treatment of dropsy, heart arrhythmias, albuminuria and gallstones. Also, the plant has anti-diabetic action as the herbal extract reduces the blood sugar levels.
