Features Description Borago officinalis is an annual plant growing from 30 to 50cm, with oval, plush leaves and blue, star-shaped flowers in inflorescences. The flowering lasts from May to September. The harvesting of the plant takes place in spring, while leaves' collection takes place in summer.
Method Administration The plant is externally administered in the form of lotion as anti-itching, as well in the form of herbal tea (two spoons of dried herb in a cup of boiled water, 2-3 times a day) as stimulant of the adrenals, heart and gastrointestinal system. The essential oil, which is extracted from the seeds is used against rheumatism.Warning: The use of herb preparations is not recommended without seeking advice from your physician or pharmacist. The substances they contain may interact with the subscribed drugs that the patient already takes, thus eliminating their therapeutic efficacy or inducing toxicity. They may also burden further weakened vital functions of the body thus exposing the patient to increased morbidity and life threatened conditions.
Pharmacological Info The whole plant is used to stimulate the function of adrenals after a long time treatment with cortisone or other steroids. Also, the herbal juice has antidepressant properties and is recommended against depression and anxiety. The external use of the lotion made from the juice inhibits the pruritus caused by dry skin. The plant has emollient, diuretic, sweating, antipyretic, cholagogue, laxative galaktagogo and anti-inflammatory properties. It is administered in the form of herbal tea against cardiovascular problems, diarrhea, colic cancer, asthma, bronchitis and various diseases of the urinary tract. Finally, the seed's oil is effective in rheumatism and restores menstruation disorders.
