Features Description Symphytum officinale is a perennial plant growing from 0,6 to 1m, with lanceolate, pubescent leaves and pink, white, yellow or purple, bell-shaped flowers in inflorescence. The flowering lasts from May to July and the harvesting takes place from March to April
Method Administration The plant is administered as anti-inflammatory, astringent, emollient and healing in the form of herbal tea (1-3 spoons of dried herb in 150mL of boiled water, 2-3 times daily). It is applied externally as healing, analgesic and sedative in the form of poultice or ointment made from the dried root.Warning: The use of herb preparations is not recommended without seeking advice from your physician or pharmacist. The substances they contain may interact with the subscribed drugs that the patient already takes, thus eliminating their therapeutic efficacy or inducing toxicity. They may also burden further weakened vital functions of the body thus exposing the patient to increased morbidity and life threatened conditions.
Pharmacological Info The whole plant has soothing, emollient, astringent, expectorant and healing properties. It is administered in the form of herbal tea for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, ulcerative colitis, diarrhea, bronchitis, gingivitis, pleurisy, rheumatism, cough and haemoptysis. It is applied externally against bruises, fractures, arthritic pain, sprains and osteoarthritis. It is recommended in the form of poultice made from the leaves against rheumatism, gout, phlebitis, blood circulation problems and edema.
