Features Description Eryngium campestre is a perennial, herbaceous plant growing from 40 to 60cm, with thorny, silver-green, spheroidal leaves and hermaphrodite, white or green flowers. The flowering and the harvesting take place from July to August.
Method Administration The plant is administered as diuretic and expectorant in the form of herbal tea (2-3 spoons of dried herb in 1L of boiled water, 3 times a day) and in the form of tincture (15 drops, 3 times a day) for the treatment of kidney stones and prostate hyperplasia. It is applied externally in the form of poultice made from the root as soothing against various skin diseases.Warning: The use of herb preparations is not recommended without seeking advice from your physician or pharmacist. The substances they contain may interact with the subscribed drugs that the patient already takes, thus eliminating their therapeutic efficacy or inducing toxicity. They may also burden further weakened vital functions of the body thus exposing the patient to increased morbidity and life threatened conditions.
Pharmacological Info The root has diuretic properties due to its high content in saponins and it is administered for the treatment of kidney stones, renal colic, cystitis, urethritis, hyperplasia of prostate and hepatic insufficiency. Also, the whole plant is used as expectorant, sudorific, stimulant and tonic in the form of herbal tea against chronic cough and pulmonary congestion. Finally, in folk medicine it is applied in the form of poultice against various skin diseases.
