| Features Description | Secale cereale is an annual, biennial or perennial grass growing from 0,1 to 1,8m, with oblong, rough, redish leaves which grow in round and cylindrical bunches. The hermaphrodite flowers grow in groups of three in small inflorescences. The fruits are olive green, yellow or blue-green and they are longer and more peaked than the wheat grain. The flowering lasts from May to July and the fruiting happens from August to September. |

It is applied externally to the skin in the form of poultice against inflammations, edema, wounds and rheumatic pain. The herbal tea has been used for the treatment of malignant hyperthermia. The plant is used in bakery, in livestock as animal feed, in brewing, as well as fuel or biomass in industry. The brunches are used as raw material for paper production, weaving mats and hats and as packaging material. |
